What is the best glucose meter?

There is no single right answer.  Just as people like different options in cars, they also like different options in glucose meters. You and your healthcare provider can decide together which meter is best for you.  Be sure to check with your insurance company; your healthcare plan may only pay for a particular meter. Here are some things to consider when choosing a meter:

  1. Are the meter and related supplies covered by insurance?
  2. Can the meter results be easily read?
  3. Does meter or strip size matter?
  4. What size blood sample is required?
  5. Does the meter keep track of the blood glucose results for a period of time?
  6. Can the meter results be downloaded onto a computer?
  7. Does the meter allow for alternative-site testing?
