Chronic diseases are a major cause of death and disability for people in Kuwait and in 2002 were reported to be responsible for 72% of all deaths in Kuwait according to the published World Health Organization (WHO) “Impact of Chronic Disease in Kuwait Report”. A huge contribution to this increased incidence is attributed to the population being overweight or obese. We have seen a rise in body mass index (BMI) in the population over the course of previous years and are expecting the same kind of rise in years to come.
