Exercise and Insulin

In general, people with Diabetes treated with insulin who wish to exercise require less insulin to control their blood sugar levels. This might be due to a more rapid absorption of insulin by the areas that have been exercised, and an increase in the effectiveness of the insulin itself.

Depending on the type of exercise you do, your healthcare provider  may need to lower your insulin dose if you take insulin to treat your Diabetes and/or increase the amount of food you eat in order to avoid low blood sugar levels or hypoglycaemia.
